Our Conference: Pay It Forward

Grade 12 is a critical time for high school students. It is a time when they make many choices with important consequences for their financial future. We believe it is crucial for students to have financial concepts fresh in their minds when they face these choices.

That is why this coming May 15th, 2010, we plan to host our second annual financial literacy conference. This year’s conference, called “Pay it Forward”, is designed to bring students and teachers together with finance professionals in order to refresh important financial concepts and bring students financial advice from the real world. Through this conference students will learn ways to practically apply these concepts to their financial future.

Our work on the conference is still in the planning stages, but we aim to do the following:

  • Teach relevant financial concepts adapted from the FLY curriculum.
  • Invite bankers, financial planners, accountants and other finance professionals to demonstrate applications of financial concepts.
  • Host a finance fair where students can walk up to professionals and learn about the services they provide, and the financial options available to them.

Last year, we brought the community together through the ‘Finance Beyond High School‘ conference – taking students’ learning beyond the classroom, encouraging and preparing them to take charge of their financial future. We hope to be just as successful this year.

Pay It Forward

In order to prepare students for their finances in the real world, we bring the real world to them. That is the idea of the "Pay It Forward" conference.
