Our co-chairs this year: Catherine Wong and Gabrielle Chan

Hi everyone! As the co-chairs of this year, we are very excited and passionate to share our vision of the conference with you. Both of us joined the F.L.Y. team last year and we were very inspired by its mission to increase awareness of financial literacy in high schools. Money management is such an important factor in life and yet there is not a subject in high school that teaches the basic knowledge that everyone should know.

When we first entered university, it was like a sudden wake up call. Everything seemed harder and everything became more expensive. If you were in public school, there were no tuition fees; going into university and now seeing the tuition fees increase every year really makes you realize how expensive things can get. Not only did we see the importance of personal finance in education, but also in our everyday lives and in our friends’ lives, especially as we started to work and pay for many of our own expenses.

Last year was definitely a fun and challenging year as it was the F.L.Y.’s first conference. Although we were in different departments, both of us were very happy to see how our end product turned out. Because of last year’s success, this year we are determined to aim high and to inspire more high school students about the importance of finance. Our vision is to reach high school students from all over Richmond, including those interested in non-finance related fields, because we believe money management is important no matter what path you take in life.
We hope to see you at the conference!
