Who We Are

About Us

Financial Literacy for Youth is a group of dedicated individuals in Vancouver, Canada, who have come together to promote financial literacy and responsibility among youths. We are led by a core team of university students and recent graduates from a variety of disciplines. Our team is also supported by a group of high school student developers, a team of teacher reviewers, and a board of directors. We are united in our belief that financial literacy is important to our society, and that the foundation of financial responsibility must be built at a young age. We have therefore created a six-lesson curriculum to teach personal finance in high schools.

The Core Team

Financial Literacy for Youth is lead by a core team of twelve university students and graduates. From curriculum research and design, to promotion and outreach, to graphics design and packaging, to fund raising and event planning, our team works tirelessly together to make FLY successful.

The Student Developers

Early in FLY’s development we were very fortunate to recruit a team of bright and dedicated high school students to help us develop our program. We meet every Saturday to work on our curriculum, making sure our materials are interesting and relevant to high school students today. Imagine 15 grade 10 students willing to give up every Saturday afternoon for the benefit others. This is the spirit of FLY!

The Board of Teachers

One of our guiding principles is that our materials should be what students find engaging, and what teachers enjoy teaching. Our FLY team includes a board of teachers who guide us in writing clear and teachable curriculum materials. Our board of teachers will also be piloting our lesson plans in high schools to ensure that our materials are successful in teaching students financial concepts.

The Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors has been instrumental in providing with us guidance and support since the inception of FLY. They continue to support FLY through giving our team advice on strategic direction, providing us with connections to the community and reviewing our lesson plans for quality and consistency.
